Special Fonts

Some languages supported by Tux Paint do not use Latin characters (e.g., "ABC xyz"); for example, Chinese and Korean.

For Tux Paint to display its interface in these languages, extra fonts are needed. These fonts can be quite large, however, so they are not included along with Tux Paint itself. They can be downloaded separately, here.

October 19, 2006: The following fonts are included in the main Tux Paint 0.9.16 package, and may not be listed below: Arabic, Chinese (Traditional) (only what's necessary to run Tux Paint), Georgian, Greek, Gujarati, Hebrew, Hindi, Japanese, Tamil, Thai, Tibetan

Downloading the Fonts:

Windows
Simply download the installer EXE files for fonts and double-click them to begin the installation procedure. (Note: The fonts are installed into Tux Paint only; not into your Windows system in general.)

RedHat Linux
RPMs packages containing the fonts are available. They will be installed in the appropriate place for Tux Paint to find them.

Mac OS X
Download the ".tar.gz" archives of the fonts you need. Once extracted, open the folder that's created and double-click the font file and click the "Install Font" button. Alternatively, drag the font file into your computer's "/Library/Fonts" folder (if you want to make it available for all users) or the "~/Library/Fonts" folder in your home directory (if you want to make it available just for the current user).

Other Linux, BSD and Solaris
Download the ".tar.gz" archives of the fonts you need. Once extracted, "cd" into the subdirectory that's created and run the command "make install" from a terminal. This will install the font.
