Where Are the Pictures?

The exact names of folders may differ, depending on your version of Windows, Mac OS X or Linux, and your system language preferences and other settings. (When in doubt, you can use your computer's search tools to look for folders named "tuxpaint".)

  • Windows Vista / Windows 7
    Look in "C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\TuxPaint\saved
(You may need to make hidden folders visible; see "Show hidden files" for Windows 7 at Microsoft Help.)
  • Windows (earlier than Vista: 95, 98, ME, 2000, XP)
By default (as of version 0.9.15), they are stored in the "TuxPaint" folder within the user's "Application Data" folder, e.g.: "C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\TuxPaint\saved"
  • Mac OS X
By default, they are stored in the the "tuxpaint" folder within the user's "Application Support" folder, e.g., "/Users/Username/Library/Applicaton Support/TuxPaint/saved/". (Prior to Tux Paint 0.9.15, they may be under "Preferences" instead of "Application Support".)
  • Linux and Unix
By default, they are stored in the ".tuxpaint" directory, within the user's home directory, e.g., "/home/username/.tuxpaint/saved/".
  • OLPC XO-1 (Sugar)
By default, they are stored deep inside the ".sugar" directory within the user's home directory, e.g., "/home/username/.sugar/default/org.tuxpaint.sugar-is-lame/data/.tuxpaint/saved".

(If you use the "savedir" option in Tux Paint, then the files will, of course, be stored in the directory you specified.)
